Traffic School
Traffic school is a general term for courses or classes that help promote traffic safety as well as safe driving skills. For countries such as the United States, these classes are intervention programs for traffic violators or those who have been repeatedly acquiring speeding tickets or traffic tickets. It is the aim of these programs to improve general safety.
Traffic schools can also be considered as a driving school defensive driving is being promoted. Typically traffic schools are recommended for violators who have not taken the course within a range of months before the violation was made. If violations are frequent and are bordering on abuse of the system then further programs and interventions other than traffic school are imposed on the violators.
Typically, a traffic school, also known as a DUI school, consists of an eight-hour defensive driving course which is held in a classroom over the course of a single day. There is an option wherein traffic school classes can be split into a series of shorter sessions spanning a number of days. Either way, the required number of eight hours should remain intact. As a result, if the violator is tardy for his or her traffic school classes, then the violator is required to extend or stay after the session for the same amount of time he or she was tardy in order to complete the mandatory eight hours.
However, there are online traffic schools which violators can avail of. Unfortunately it is not for the violator to decide whether or not he or she will avail of the online traffic school courses, but the law shall decide whether the violator is allowed or not.
During traffic school, the course instructor is not exactly always somebody from a law enforcement body. The instructor does not require a special training or some kind of special education regarding traffic laws or safety. A typical course in traffic school consists of several lectures that revolve around traffic laws as well as safe driving habits. This is based on a driver manual that has been approved for distribution. Some short video clips may also be shown as well as comprehensive test on the lecture, which will be given at the end of eight hours. Although passing marks for the test is not mandatory, taking of the examination is a requirement. The instructor then issues a certificate and receipt which will serve as documentation that the violator has served his or her sentence.
